Legacy of Father Kato
Within the framework of the centenary of his birth, we honor the life and dedication of R.P. Manuel Kato. His deep Franciscan spirit and his vision of solidarity united the Nikkei community and the Peruvian people, laying the foundations for a work that today continues to transform lives through health, care and human dignity.
Who was Father Kato?
First Peruvian Nikkei priest, born on March 1, 1926. He was ordained in 1954 and dedicated his life, as a good Franciscan, to the service of the most vulnerable. In 1976 he returned permanently to Peru, where years later he founded the Emmanuel Association, leaving a legacy of love, compassion and dedication.

Founded to shelter homeless children in Puente Piedra.

Created to provide medical care to low-income people.
2002 | Emmanuel Rest House
Established as a worthy space for the care of older adults. His work was recognized in Japan and Peru, being a bridge figure between both cultures.

In March 2026 we commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Padre Manuel Kato, Japanese Peruvian missionary who dedicated He dedicated his life to serving with love, faith and unconditional dedication to the most needy in Peru. His work remains alive in every corner of the Emmanuel Association. Padre Kato not only founded institutions such as the Children's Home, Polyclinic and the Emmanuel Rest House. He sowed values of solidarity, humility and commitment to others that continue to inspire volunteers, doctors, nuns and benefactors.
